Thank you very much for your understanding and patience while waiting for me to return safely to Germany.
I hope you and the entire Akta family have had a wonderful start to the new year 2026.
On 26 December 2025, my husband Toni and I joined the Delivery Boys action during my visit to Japan. We believe that our decision to participate was driven by our willingness to learn, our curiosity, and our openness to new experiences, including different cultures. We are convinced that through encounters and mutual understanding, we can always learn and experience something beautiful—and help create a world where coexistence is not a competition, but a collaboration and solidarity.
As this was my first visit to Japan and I had little knowledge of queer scenes and culture before, joining Delivery Boys gave me a much broader perspective on queer life and nightlife in Tokyo. Moreover, the neighbourhood of Shinjuku Ni-chōme, with its more than 150 bars, left a very strong impression on me—especially in terms of solidarity, resilience, and the safer spaces that our community members can find and truly be themselves in.
At Akta, I learned a lot about teamwork within Tokyo’s work culture. I felt very welcome from the beginning. The introduction was very informative and gave me a clear understanding of the dos and don’ts during the activity. The space itself was very cozy and made me feel at home. The exhibition about sex work made me think, “Yes! Akta is really cool.” as I also work in a similar NGO and could strongly relate to the work being done. The whole team was so friendly that I truly miss you all.
To everyone, with or without a migration background—tourists, expats, and others—I strongly encourage you to join and support Delivery Boys. Every small action can have a great impact on improving sexual health within our community. Seeing Shinjuku Ni-chōme from this perspective is something you cannot experience every night. In my opinion, it is an experience that cannot be paid for with money.
Therefore, I would like to express my deep gratitude and thank you sincerely for the opportunity, guidance, and teamwork. All of this made my Japan trip unforgettable and truly meaningful. I hope we can stay in touch, even if not in person but digitally. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions or ideas.
